In line with its ongoing focus on analytical rigor and to meet the growing demand for individuals trained in public policy and big data analytics, the School of Public Affairs at 小蓝视频 is thrilled to announce its first Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) degree, an innovative new track offered through its Master of Public Policy program.
鈥淲e now offer two tracks through the MPP,鈥 said SPA Assistant Professor and program coordinator David Schwegman, 鈥渁 traditional MPP track that enables students to specialize in a particular policy area, and a STEM-designated MPP with a specialization in advanced policy analytics.鈥
SPA鈥檚 traditional MPP track provides a comprehensive, interdisciplinary foundation that equips graduates to analyze, design, and evaluate and communicate public policies effectively, with 12 distinct specializations available (or the option to customize their own).
Meanwhile, our STEM-designated MPP track prepares graduates to meet the growing employer demands for policy professionals who can manage big data and apply advanced quantitative methods to assess policy effectiveness.鈥疘n a small-cohort setting, students receive training in advanced quantitative methods, program evaluation, project management, and cost-benefit analysis.
Why does this matter? For one, STEM designation allows non-U.S. nationals to qualify for a 24-month Optional Practical Training (OPT) extension beyond program completion, providing up to three years of work authorization in the U.S. without requiring employer sponsorship.
And, of course, this MPP STEM degree reflects SPA鈥檚 determination to remain at the cutting edge of global policy research. For more information, reach out to program coordinator David Schwegman or request more information below.
